OUR STORY

Family-owned.

Oregon-made.

Protecting people since 1998.

IceAlert started with a simple idea: give people a visible warning before they step onto ice they can't see. 27 years later, we've shipped tens of thousands of signs to organizations across the country, from Amazon distribution centers to small-town nursing homes.

HOW WE GOT HERE

A family business built on one straightforward product.

IceAlert was founded in 1998 outside Portland, Oregon. The premise was simple: freezing surfaces are invisible, and people get hurt walking on them. A sign that physically changes color when temperatures approach freezing gives everyone exiting a warm building, traversing stairs, or walking down a path, an immediate, unmistakable warning.

The product uses a bimetallic coil — the same proven mechanism inside industrial thermostats. It begins changing from reflective silver to blue at 38°F and is fully blue by 32°F. No batteries, no wiring, no electronics. Nothing to charge, calibrate, or maintain.

That simplicity is the point. A sign that depends on Wi-Fi or batteries will eventually fail during the one storm that matters. A mechanical indicator won't.

Today we're a second-generation family business. We manufacture and calibrate in Oregon, ship direct, and provide free site design assistance for any size installation. Our customers include Amazon, Ford, 3M, Intel, Merck, Providence Health, John Deere, the U.S. Marine Corps, and thousands of facilities in between.

We make one product extremely well, and we stand behind every unit that leaves our shop.

WHAT WE MAKE

Three products. One mission: make dangerous conditions visible.

Every product we build answers the same question: how do you warn people about a hazard they can't see or feel until it's too late?

What We Believe
The principles behind every sign we ship.
01
Mechanical beats digital for life-safety warnings
A sign that depends on a battery, a Wi-Fi connection, or an app will eventually fail during the one storm that matters. A bimetallic indicator responds to physics, not firmware.
02
Simple products should be honestly priced
$189 for a sign that lasts 10+ years. No subscription, no service contract, no recurring fees. The price is on the website because we don't think you should have to call to find out what something costs.
03
Made in Oregon, shipped direct
We manufacture every IceAlert sign in Lake Oswego. We don't outsource production, and we ship direct so you're never waiting on a distributor's timeline. Most orders ship in 3 business days.
04
Every facility is different
A 4-entrance nursing home and a 40-building corporate campus don't need the same installation plan. We provide free site design assistance for any size deployment. Send us your site, we'll design the system.
